We feel that this website
fills a gap left by the big players like SCOPE, MIND, CARERS UK, Help
The Aged, Downs Syndrom Association, MENCAP, Local Members of Parliament,
& many, many, many, others!!! We take on individual issues relevent
to individuals... We are not yet a registered charity & we do not
get paid for what we do. If you are fed up with being fobbed off by
the big players or if there are any issues you would like help with
then please contact us and we will try to help. Please also feel free
to contact us if you think you can help with any of the issues on this
site!!
Issues of interest
to our group include:
1)
Nottinghamshire County Council Care Home and Day Centre closures and
"privatisation" of Social Services:

18,000
Nottinghamshire people chose to save the Care Homes (Notts
Evening Post, 18/12/07)
How low can you go? Mansfield Councillor Joyce Bosnjac
presented a petition signed by 367 people supporting Mansfield Pensioner's
Action. She did this despite admitting the possible closures were something
she was directly responsible for. Councillors spend too much money brainwashing
you into thinking that they do a good job...Why
not get rid of the FAT CATS and save money for Care Homes and Day Centres?
Maybe this makes too much sense...
Comment - Councilors waste money that
could be spent on care homes - Joyce Bosnjac again!
Point of view: Notts County Council Care
Homes are under threat because those in power cannot balance the books...

September 2007 Cabinet meeting in which the first steps towards
Care Home & Day Centre closures were taken. (for more info CLICK

with Carers during the production of the recommendations passed at this
meeting (see point 3 below!)...

2)
Carers Allowance -
we demand minimum wage for carers!
When is a benefit not a benefit? When it should be a wage!!!
Providing appropriate care (maybe introducing training on various aspects
of care for "family carer's").
Notts County Council desperatly tries to balance its books - maybe Care
Home & Day Centre closures can help them with this - but no
change for carers!!

RE HOSSACKS solicitors and Carers Allowance
3)
Respect for Carers!!! Carer consultation and valuing the views of Carers!
Ever get the feeling that when carers are invited to a "consultation"
it is just so that the organisation can put a tick in the box? Have
you ever felt your views as a carer are ignored? This is why we use
this site....Getting policy makers to consult meaningfully with Carers
and those they care for is a BIG ISSUE. Even the Red
Cross Carers Forum has recognised that carers views are
largely asked for and ignored.... Councillors
"Named and Shamed" by Justice for Carers
Feeling undervalued
by Social Services and County Councils? We want repect for "family
carers" and demand full consultation in any process which affects
us or those we care for. Link
