Campaigns: Point of View Justice for Carers

As Chaiman of KATCH DC Grenville made a major contribution to saving residents here - Kirklands Home, Kirkby - (most with fairly advanced dementia) from being cast-out into various privare sector homes by the County Council. He chaired the action group which secured the building of a replacement Home, into which each of the then residents could move together.
He is a wonderful guy, truly 'driven' by a determination that everyone should be treated with fairness and respect, including CARERS of all persuations.
He now has a wonderful wife, Helene, who supports him in all he does.
Thank God for men (and women) of his ilk.

If it was not for the legal expertise of Yvonne Hossack we would not have got the result we did. (WE being the operative word) Family, friends and carers worked together to try and save Kirklands and other care homes in Nottinghamshire

Chairman KATCH and member of Justice for Carers

Lets look at the evidence regarding consultation

1] Cllr Bosniac (Sarah you can find her details on our web site in an evening post article) was instrumental in recommending closure. Admitted to being embarressed handing in a petition to keep a care home open.

2] Cllr Alan Rhodes ( Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health) email to you saying he wanted to close Kirklands

3] Cllr Kirkham (Leader of the County Council) did not attend an arranged public meeting at Kirklands.

4] After Yvonne Hossack reminded the County Council of the Jolley Report and what happens when you remove vulnerable people from care homes without proper consideration

5] Council promised to find new land and build a 60 bed care home. This will enable all present cared for in Kirklands to move together with all necessary consideration

6] David Hamiliton ( Service Director) "Aiming For Excellence" reflects our ambition to deliver the absolute best for older people whilst acknowledging the challenge that this brings and the continous improvement nature of our work. This is a journey not a destination"

7] Sadly there are now three authorities trying to put Yvonne Hossack out of business via what can only be described as a Kangaroo Court.

Justice for Carers (Comment)
If the council had promised to build a new purpose built home and move everyone in together with all appropriate support in the first instance we would have had no need to bother Yvonne Hossack and there would have been no distress to vulnerable residents and their families.

Presently there are three authorities trying to put Yvonne Hossack out of business and if they succeed using public money and high flying Law Firms. It will be a very sad day for carers the frail elderly and vulnerable in our society threatened with losing their homes etc.

Why?
Yvonne Hossack has a proven track record, of fighting the authorities when they are closing care homes without proper consideration. Yvonne Hossack has integrity will not be bought off, and is the only one who does the kind of work she does.

A sort of David and Goliath confrontation.

Lets hope and pray Yvonne Hossack is succesful when she defends herself against the might of the establishment
